Danish duo descend

Last week, a Danish duo descended on Thinking Space, as we played host to our friends from JJ Mechatronic, Peter Hald and Ole Lorentsen.  The Danish company are the Kanya distributors for Denmark. The pair arrived and were given the factory tour, keen to see how Kanya UK operates and to share experiences.

But the highlight of the trip for all occurred on the Saturday.  Regular Saints fan Wayne escorted Peter and Ole to Southampton Football Clubs’ home fixture against Liverpool. Avid Liverpool fan Ole was joined by fellow supporter Paul Roberts, cheering on LFC whilst Wayne and Peter were firmly supporting the Saints, Peter even stocking up on football kit to take back home for him and his son.

As a token of appreciation for the great weekend had, Paul and Wayne were presented with FC Copenhagen football shirts from the Danish duo. These received their first formal outing at the Thinking Space Football five a side game last night. Apparently they seem to bring them luck as despite only having four in the team, they finally tasted victory!

Kanya training rigs take off

The factory resembled an aircraft hangar during August, as we constructed four aircraft training rigs. Required for clients Pennant Training Systems Ltd, the structures were assembled from our Kanya aluminium profile range, ready for onward delivery to Cheltenham.

The rigs are to be used for maintenance training primarily within the military aviation arena, but are also suitable for use in the commercial or civil sector. The Part Task Trainers, known as GenFly, realistically replicate a generic modern fast jet. The open frame aircraft structure (made from Kanya) will have a representative cockpit fitted by the client with various controls and displays. Trainees can then practice a wide range of hands on aircraft maintenance activities with simulated faults being injected from an instructor workstation which allow failure mode recognition, fault diagnosis and rectification by component change.

The modular structure created by the Kanya build allows access and viewing of the primary and secondary flying control systems, landing gear systems and auxiliary systems, including nose-wheel steering and wheel-braking in a safe and effective environment to train aircraft mechanics and technicians.

Just one of many possible applications the Kanya aluminium build system can be used for!

Northern Sales Specialist appointed for Kanya UK

Kanya UK are delighted to announce the appointment of Steve Taylor, who joins the Kanya team as Product Sales Specialist, representing the Midlands and north of the UK.

With over 27 years in the steel industry, Steve previously worked with engineers as an Operational Manager, gaining experience cutting and machining products similar to the Kanya profiling system, before furthering his knowledge as a Sales Specialist. Using aluminium tooling to provide surface treatments in the past, Steve has a deep understanding of the benefits of using aluminium for industrial projects.

During the first few weeks of his appointment, Steve received extensive product training at the company’s’ factory in Hampshire.  This has given Steve an in-depth appreciation of the high quality range that Kanya offers, and will ensure he can offer the best possible solution to meet the customer’s needs.

After also shadowing Tony Ferreira, the Product Sales Specialist for the south of England, Steve will begin to manage existing Kanya clients and work on developing new customer relationships in the north of the country.

His first task will be to attend the Northern Manufacturing Show in September, where Kanya will be occupying stand D85. With a range of applications to demonstrate, Steve will be accompanied by Tony throughout the event, which is held at Event City on 28th and 29th September.

With an acute understanding of business to business sales,  Steve will undoubtedly excel in the role and contribute towards the continuing growth of Kanya in the UK.

Another Kanya employee crowned

Our Kanya engineer Barry has been crowned Employee of the Month for July. Barry was rewarded for his hard work and dedication whilst others were on holiday in continuing to turn orders around. In addition, Barry has been helping to assemble resources required for a large build which is taking place in the factory this week. Watch this space for further details!

Barry is chuffed to be taking over the title and parking space from last months’ Employee of the Month, yet another Kanya employee, Tony. So it seems the Kanya team are flying at the moment…but never too busy to take more orders of course.

Introductions…

Introductions were on the cards last week, as we hosted colleagues from Kanya AG and  their new General Manager, Patrik Muller. Accompanied by Andre Muller, Patrik was given the tour of our factory and was introduced to two of the team, Barry and Roger. Following on from this, we were given a glimpse into the exciting new product lines in development and predicted for the future too.

But not wanting the duo to leave England without experiencing a little bit of traditional English culture, the infamous White Horse Afternoon Tea was the on the agenda, with Andre and Patrick able to indulge in tea, cakes and scones.

A positive trip and very thorough introduction to many of the members of our Kanya team here at our HQ in Romsey, we hope Andre and Patrik enjoyed the experience and will visit again soon!

Kanya the solution for ATC simulator training rig

An ATC simulator training rig has been created using the Kanya aluminium build system as its framework. The project forms part of a larger project undertaken by parent company Thinking Space Systems to provide ATC tower training facilities.

The 360 degrees simulator is 7 metres wide by 2.6 metres high, in a decagon-shape design.  Heavyheight Kanya aluminium profiles make up the framework.  Ten large flat screen monitors are mounted around its perimeter.  A personnel door has been created to allow access for training staff and ensure complete enclosure. To aid blackout and acoustic control, black wool serge material is fitted into the framework surrounding the screens, using one of two material entrapment methods available. Watch our video to find out more.

The simulator was assembled in the factory at Thinking Space, before being dismantled and freighted to the final site in South America.

Just one of the many applications the Kanya aluminium build system can be used for…

10 year service celebrations for Roger

Last week, we celebrated as four of our colleagues were presented with 10 year service awards at Thinking Space. Our Roger was one of the four, who has been working with the Kanya profile system for many a year now.

To acknowledge this, our colleagues at Kanya HQ in Switzerland sent their own very special award to Roger, a bottle of bubbly and a recognition certificate.  Roger was presented with his extra special award, along with his 10 year service award at the company presentation, with all the Thinking Space staff in attendance.

Relaying stories from the early days featuring the rustic offices the company started out from, Roger recalled when he let slip to a colleague his dislike of creepy crawlies and was later presented with one when opening the usual mail deliveries for the day.

Roger, along with colleagues Tina, Paul and Alastair were given a round of applause by staff and a photo shoot to remind them of their achievement and commitment to the company.

Kanya employee awarded recognition

Kanya Product Specialist Tony Ferreira has been awarded recognition this month. Each month, parent company Thinking Space Systems reward employees who have gone above and beyond the call of duty and this month Tony was that employee. Having smashed his sales target for the month, Tony now has a conveniently located parking space to use, as well as a bottle of bubbly, in recognition of his achievements. Well done Tony!

Kanya distributors unite!

Last week, Managing Director Wayne Palmer travelled to the Kanya headquarters in Switzerland, where he was joined by other Kanya distributors from around the globe for a product update meeting. It was a chance for Wayne to meet up again with some old friends as well as being enlightened by some brand new products in development. With the usual first class hospitality offered by Kanya, the trip included a boat trip as well as some goodie bags with some useful Kanya-branded items…. an umbrella, a sunhat and a thermos cup to cover all weather possibilities.

Above photo: A great opportunity for Wayne to catch up with old friends, including Dr Ulf Haidle, the former owner of Altratec.
